Did you know that it is 150 years since the first successful transatlantic message was sent by cable from Valentia to Heart’s Content in Newfoundland? To celebrate we will be marking the occasion with a festival of lectures, tours and fun events from Thursday, 14 July to Sunday, 17 July. There will be something for all the family including a fireworks display, robotic workshops, a cable swim, guided walks and cycle tours of historical points and a GALA DINNER on Thursday, 14th July (tickets available to buy shortly). A special exhibition including the famous Dudley paintings will be on display in the Cable Station and of course the full cable exhibition is available throughout the summer months at the Valentia Island Heritage Centre. A full events listing will be available shortly
